                 BISCAYNE APPAREL RETAINS INVESTMENT BANKER
              TO ASSIST IN DETERMINING STRATEGIC ALTERNATIVES
                                

CLIFTON, NJ - (August 31, 1998) Biscayne Apparel, Inc. (ASE:BHA) today
announced that it has retained the investment banking arm of Kurt Salmon
Associates, consultants to retailers and consumer products companies, to advise
Biscayne on strategic alternatives to maximize operating profitability and
shareholder value. These alternatives may include the disposition of some or
all of its three operating units. 

Peter Vandenberg, Jr., President and Chief Operating Officer, commented, "Our
goal is to maximize shareholder value through the most productive use of our
Company's  assets. Kurt Salmon Associates has been retained to advise Biscayne
on the best strategic alternatives to achieve this goal."
