EXECUTIVE OFFICES 222 Smallwood Village Center, St. Charles, Maryland 20602 (301) 843-8600 FAX (301) 870-5487 News Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT March 24, 1997 Gregory A.TenEyck (301) 843-8600 EQUUS GAMING AFFILIATE TO MANAGE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM FOR NEW NATIONAL LOTTERY IN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC ST. CHARLES, Md._ Equus Gaming Company L.P. (Nasdaq: EQUUS), a publicly traded partnership with horse racing and gaming interests in the Caribbean, today announced that an affiliate has signed a contract to manage the wagering distribution system for a new national lottery in the Dominican Republic. Equus effectively owns 45 percent of Galapagos S.A., which operates V Centenario Race Track and an off-track betting (OTB) agency network in the Dominican Republic. Galapagos has a contract to provide distribution services for Dominican International Electronic Lottery, Inc. (LEIDSA), and will provide and share outlets with LEIDSA's national lottery commencing June 1997. Galapagos also announced that it has signed a contract with Autotote Systems, Inc., a division of Autotote Corporation (AMEX: TTE), to provide the operating system for the lottery. Autotote also has contracts with V Centenario Race Track and El Comandante Race Track in Puerto Rico. LEIDSA will pay fees to Galapagos for providing the distribution system and to reimburse Galapagos for approximately one-half of the telephone line costs of Galapagos' OTB agencies. "The marriage of OTB with an electronic lottery in the Dominican Republic provides an efficient and mutually beneficial distribution system," said Donald Drew, President of Galapagos. "Though OTB agencies will offer lottery tickets, which may diminish wagering on horse races, the new lottery outlets also will offer pool wagering on horse races at V Centenario and El Comandante. This promises to be a win- win situation." Galapagos, which has exclusive rights to develop an OTB agency network and simulcast horse racing in the Dominican Republic, has established approximately 230 OTB agencies with independent owner/operators since its start-up two years ago. Management plans to have 375 agencies on-line by the end of 1997 with continuing growth to approximately 450 agencies in 1998. Separately, the number of lottery outlets is expected to grow from approximately 200 in June 1997 to about 450 by mid-1998. Equus owns an 82 percent interest in HDA, a partnership that owns El Comandante Race Track in Puerto Rico and a 55 percent interest in Galapagos. # # # Ends.
