(Nasdaq: EQUUS), a publicly traded partnership with horse racing and gaming interests in the Caribbean, today announced resumption of live racing with seven races conducted on Saturday and seven races on Sunday at El Comandante race track. In spite of the wet, rainy conditions over the last two weeks, the rebuilt track was in satisfactory condition. The handle on Saturday was $587,000 and $645,000 on Sunday. The track normally operates with 700 agencies; however, a number of locations in Puerto Rico still have communication outages as a result of Hurricane Georges. The track had 550 agencies operating for the Saturday and Sunday programs. The handle for these two days is approximately 55 percent of the handle for similar Saturdays and Sundays before Hurricane Georges struck. Management of El Comandante is pleased that the racing program has resumed even though considerable work has to be performed on the clubhouse and grandstands which is estimated to be completed in six months.
